I went to the machine shop today to retrieve my head. The former owner broke an intake bolt off in it and i didn't want to destroy the head to get it out. checked the rod play on the crank and made sure the sealing surface on the head is good enough to seal the head gasket. Overall a fun day!

Purchased an old dead scooter. Started diagnosing the problems with this thing. Today, I am going to re-fuse (with a blade fuse holder) the ignition wire, re-plumb with quality vacuum and fuel line tubing, change out spark plug (@7k miles it still had the original plug and tubing). maybe give it a cup of gas and see if it will start.
Haven't been able to ride my everyday scoot for a week... its been raining. Had to mow the lawn instead of ride last night after work.

Hey rdhood,,keep us posted on the scooter repair,,Im going to buy a few used 150s this summer and repair them for resale,,see them on CL all the time for $200-$400 and most only need a fuel line, carb clean, and battery Hope it runs like a banshee for ya!!

Finally adjusted the valve (singular) today. The exhaust valve was a bit tight. The intake was surprisingly set close to .004 or so, so I just left it as is.
Cleaned the carb thoroughly which had some dirt around the intake area and underneath the diaphragm. Plus the outside needed it, too. When I saw dirt inside the airbox tube that threw up a red flag.
Not sure what the deal is but my stock foam air filter is only about a 1/4 inch thick. Not sure what is up with that, but whatever. The scoot is running a bit better after the valve job and a clean carb, so I'm happy.

I've never oiled the stock air filter.
EDIT: That's new to me. I know some performance free-flow filters get oiled, but honestly have never oiled the stock one.

Will be putting on a 120/70-15 Michelin Pilot Pure Power tire on the front this weekend along with doing an oil/gear lube change. Local big brand motorcycle dealer has the tire for less money than most internet venders with no shipping fee either. The Aprilia Sport City is pretty good with the Sava up front but should be a bit smoother with the Pure Power which some race teams are using now.

Not the scoot, but my new (to me) Silverwing got fresh rubber (Metzler ME888's) front and back as well as a used but very good condition windshield (that I can actually SEE through!). I have now officially spent more than half the cost of the bike on essential repairs/upgrades, and I haven't even touched the brakes or engine servicing yet...

Scooter #1: rode it 50 miles over the weekend. It's developed a sort of rumble/rough idle. Its not much, but it's definitely not as smooth as it was for the first 250 miles that I have put on the bike. I am going to do a valve adjustment, which it has not had since it was purchased. Orig owner put 370 and I have put 300= 670 miles. Time to adjust valves.
Scooter #2: pulled of the cvt side cover. Someone put a gates belt on the bike, and it looks new. It measures in at 19.3mm wide. The gates belt on scoot #1 with 300 miles on it is 19.3mm wide. So, it is an almost-new belt. Just waiting for parts to come in to get this thing rolling. I have about $250 into it at this point, and things are looking pretty good.

Look for some K&N (or other good brand) filter oil at almost every auto parts store. Usually in aerosol can. Read directions and mist lightly, but do not soak your filter. That should trap way more dirt than before.

They recommend 10W-30 and I had used 80W90. It IS okay to use MOTOR oil instead of GEAR oil, right? I sure hope so because I didn't see any 10W-30 gear oil at the store. -snip- I put the original carb back in, dropped the needle back down and dropped the jet size by 010. I had recently tried to richen the mixture to solve my hot exhaust pipe issue and it didn't work. Not only that, but it dropped my gas mileage by 20mpg, so I put it all back the way I started but with a slightly richer jet than original just to be safe. I'm just curious, but does your scoot have the original muffler to that engine or a different one? Just to clarify, you are talking about the pipe that goes TO the muffler and not the muffler itself, right? Or does the muffler get excessively hot as well? Did it ever or does it sound like something loose in the muffler? Does the exhaust sound different than it used to? I'm asking these questions because of the possibility of some restriction in the exhaust system. On my Reflex scooter there is some built in restriction so that the catalytic converter (which is built into the muffler itself) will get hot enough to do its job. Just tossing the idea out there as a possibility. Motor oil should be fine for your scooter if the manual calls for it... My Silverwing calls for the same thing and it's a BIG scooter (582cc)

My Silverwing calls for the same thing and it's a BIG scooter (582cc) It's the original muffler/header pipe. I'm talking about the pipe getting hot coming out of the head. I tried another muffler/header (one unit) with the same results. I also checked the tire size and it is the stock size. I need to get the other 250 on the road so I can compare the two bikes for this issue.
