Go to the hardware store and get yourself a 12V LIGHT TESTER. They are easy to use and you can test where you are loosing the VOLTAGE. Either from the KEY SWITCH to the BRAKE SWITCH or if volatage it getting to the SWITCH but not out then you found your problem a bad switch. You can also test the SOLENOID WHEN YOU squeeze the brake TEST the YELLOW AND GREEN WIRE going into the SOLENOID that is the LIVE WIRE from the BRAKE SWITCH. Alleyoop

Damn I was wondering about the brake switch being a future problem,,is there a way we can by pass it also Alley so the motor will start without squeezing a brake handle?
Guess we would have to take the wire from the ignition switch that feeds the brake switch and go strait to the solenoid or something like that?

Thanks again alleyoop! Ok more info to share but I'm not sure I've found the problem yet. So I've got power at the solenoid wires, I've got power at the brake switch as well as each brake when squeezed. I THINK I've got power at the key switch considering everything lights up when I turn the key but maybe there is a certain wire I should be looking for?
One thing I can't seem to get power from is the start button. I've got a black wire coming from that bundle that seems to be a constant 12V but I can't seem to find a 12V signal from any of the other wires when I hit the start button.
So a few questions. 1. Do you know the color of the wire I should be getting a signal from when I press the start button? 2. So it would make sense if my start button was broken since the scoot won't — you know— start. But why wouldn't my brake lights be working? (to be clear, the lights themselves work but they don't get brighter when the brakes are applied)
Color me confused. Again any suggestions are much appreciated.

The Start button ALL IT DOES IS GROUNDS OUT THE SOLENOID to complete the circuit, so check the wire on the start button many it came loose. Or the Start button is not grounding it out. Alleyoop

If you do not want it to work off the brakes go straight to the solenoid BUT I would put an OFF and ON toggle switch. You hit the toggle switch to send juice to it and then once it starts turn the juice off. Alleyoop

[replyingto=alleyoop]alleyoop[/replyingto]So it might not be the starter button at all then. Hmmmm. Do you know the color of the wire that needs to be grounded when the button is pressed? Maybe I could somehow test that wire.
But that still doesn't explain why my brake lights aren't working. I would THINK the bike not starting and the brake lights not working would be correlated but maybe not? Could I be looking at two different issues here?
Thanks!

The brake lights are definitely part of the problem

[replyingto=scootnwinn]scootnwinn[/replyingto]Have any ideas of would it could be if I have 12V coming out of each brake and 12V at the solenoid?

[replyingto=scootnwinn]scootnwinn[/replyingto]Would anyone be able to tell me where the main ground is at? My mechanic said it was under the right foot board but the only thing I see there is some wires going into the gas tank. I assume I'm looking for a gaggle of green wires but can't seem to locate them. If anyone could tell me where they are at and what it looks like it sincerely appreciate it. Thanks!

I know this thread is on the old side, but I still haven't gotten my poor scoot to give me any brake lights or electric start. I located the engines ground to the chassis and it appears to be solid. I found it under the seat, straight back from the solenoid. No wiggling or anything. Is there another ground I should be looking for? Do you guys know if the problem could lie in the electric start housing? Could that cause the brakes lights to fail? Remember I have tail lights, they just don't get brighter when I squeeze the brakes. My previous mechanic has essentially bailed on me, making this extremely frustrating. If I can't get this fixed myself, I'm gonna have to find someone new who will no doubt be inexperienced with these little Chinese scoots and cost me plenty of dough. Any help at all is GREATLY appreciated.
