Owned brand new 2013 Vespa (350 cc) from 2014 to 2017. Had to sell for complicated reasons. It had less than 100 miles on it. Bought for about $7,500. Had to sell to a local motorcycle dealer. Only got $2,500 for it because it had a dent in it from the 1 time I tried to ride it on a Sunday afternoon empty parking lot. Took a spill because the thing was too big for me. Previous "scooter" was a Honda Metropolitan. I only wanted something with enough cc's to carry a passenger. Let myself get talked into something too big. Hard lesson learned. Tried to find online forum to list it for sale, but was in a hurry & couldn't find one that was active.
Wish I'd found you folks back then.
I still want to get a Vespa, though, and might attend AmeriVespa this year, but have questions about it.

Is AmeriVespa mostly for "hard core" Vespa-heads? Or could a newbie, wanna-be like me find things, people, displays, events etc. I'd like to go, but that would be quite a bit of $$ for someone coming from the midwest. Trouble is, unless I go to Minneapolis or Chicago, it's hard to find anyone in smaller cities & towns who's interested in them. Vespa lovers are even derided at times.
I don't want to go (alone) to AmeriVespa only to find out I'm out of my element and miserable. Especially if everyone knows everybody else ahead of time. Also, I wouldn't mind being a passenger on a ride.
Do they have anything especially for newbies or people there alone?
Thanks.
p.s. Rock Island is part of the Quad Cities of Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline & Rock Island. Also, where do you recommend I go on this site to discuss buying a Vespa if one is a newbie?

You can go whether or not you own a Vespa, newbies are welcomed and you would have a great time.

It's a jamboree !!! Are you kidding?? They don't care if your walking driving or riding,,,if it were my decision I'd be going for a piaggio fly,,,made by Vespas parent company,,,less expensive ,,a great all around bike and faster than SHT right out of the box with no mods,,I had a vespa et4 got it used off craigslist for $1200 with 98 miles on it,,,it was ok but I was unimpressed,,,sold it and made a few bux and got a Stella instead,,,very happy,,,I was actually looking for a px200 vespa but they are crazy money even used ,,,found one on CL for $300 with no miles but it was sold before I could get at it,,,but if you get a chance to do the amerivespa thing you will not be disappointed

Just looked up Piaggio Fly. CCs are right, but I don't like the styling. I want something that's instantly recognizable as a Vespa -- the traditional styling. That one doesn't do it for me. Is 150 cc's the minimum for being able to carry a passenger? What do you think of this one?

If it comes with the bags it’s a deal,,, if that’s an et4 it’ll do fine two up around town,, not fast enough for the highway tho

Welcome to the forum. I worked for a man whose father worked for the "Rock Island Railroad" his entire career. His face lit up when he talked about his dad. -AmeriVespa is in Richmond, VA this year? That's a fur piece from me.
