Fix a flat (or 12v air compressor) with tire-plug kit, the head-mounted light, spare screws, wire ties, loctite, rags, 1st aid, the top 3 or 4 sizes of socket/wrench that you use on your scoot, starter fluid, cell, cash, extra cell charger if you don't have cig. adapter, and any of 100 other good ideas you see on this board (the old board) over the many times this question has been asked

Sometimes I get a call at my shop and the customer will be so oblivious to even operate a scooter or how to use a kickstarter so I go over the basics and after about ten minutes into the conversation, if theyre still unable to understand then I'll throw a few zingers in and ask them to check the blinker fluid and whatnot. That's just havin' fun widdit!

If you were a bike rider as a kid, do you remember that feeling when you woke up in the morning, especially on weekends when you knew you could ride half of the day (back when kids didn't have to be constantly watched., and you couldn't wait to just get outside and get on your bike? I feel that every day regarding my stupid 49cc Chinese scooter. Absolutely MUST ride, and I've wanted a scooter/moped since I was 5 years old, watching my neighbor, Mr. Vaughn, pedal his to a start and riding down to the Tiny Giant. He later gave us his moped; it was broken, and we never fixed it, but that heightened the fever for me. After that, still having never ridden a scooter/moped, I owned a Kawasaki and rode that, rode Harley's and Hondas, and while all of them had their fun, they are nothing like scooters. There is something very bike-like about scooters which applies to my first part of this statement. I pull up on sidewalks and park (yesterday pulled up on two sidewalks; one was a friend's business to talk about revamping his web site and the other was the post office, which I parked on twice--people see you rolling down the sidewalk and you would expect disapproval--all I see is envy...)

This may sound strange but I wonder if it has to do with the broad increase of people on average that have ABS. I would think brake lock ups would promote sliding vs. flipping. No?

I think I understand what wutz' is getting at, based from what I've read on SD. There are folks who honestly have zero idea how to fix something. Yet they jump in fast with their suggestions for fixing whatever. And many times what they suggest isn't just wrong, it can make things way worse. It would be like me offering mechanics advice. Except I know I'm totally non-mechanical and keep my "mouth" shut when folks are asking for mechanical help. It does seem like there's others that are pretty much non-mechanical like me, but unlike me don't know it. The bad thing, wutz', is those folks just don't know they're offering bad or potentially harmful advice. They think they're helping. Period. Hard for a newb who doesn't know the diff. But hopefully the newbs will also be seeing other posts with the correct advice. >'Kat Yup, that sums it up. By default, we that don't know a lot about scooters tend to automatically ascribe this expert label to those that answer us authoritatively, so if they have given us a wrong answer or bad advice that we are taking as the gospel, bad stuff will follow. And sadly, others have to police posts to quickly denounce things that are untrue. So unnecessary to have to go to that length, you know? Nobody actually suggested those things, prodigit; I was using them as examples of bad advice.

I'm wrong all the time, bro! My favorite quote is by Socrates: "Only one thing that I know; that is that I know nothing." But if you say, "My opinion is..." or "I once saw this work..." vs. "Just fill the tires up with oil; works perfectly, everybody does it..." I don't get why people come from an angle if "this is fact, well-established" because those of us that don't know will believe that, at least initially, so it's incredibly misleading and potentially very dangerous... like I said, being willing to be wrong is a sign of being intelligent (imo), but to present a wrong thing as fact is a sign of being deluded or something more sinister. I still feel bad about having you get the wrong switch parts Oh seriously? I FORGOT about that til you mentioned it! XD Dont' sweat that... I wasn't talking about that, anyway. It was like one or two dollars and it was a simple mistake. I appreciate your help and as much as you have helped me, if I can't excuse a one or two dollar mistake, that says a lot about me and nothing bad about you!

how about the people that ask question to, like. Example- i got a scooter a paid a 100 dollars for, the guy i bought it from say it needs a carb.It isnt running please help....I hate those question. I was guilty of that til I learned the ropes; honestly, while it can be rather lazy in appearance, I think some people really don't know what else to ask. You know? Like they don't know the anatomy in order to ask a more specific question. But if they give a vague question, you can always give a vague answer

i've been wrong on stuff several times too wutz, as you know, but i have learned from my wrong answers also, i know zero about wiring so i stay out of those issues. I'm wrong all the time, bro! Like I said, JR, a simple qualifying statement if you don't know would give the OP the appropriate weight to apply to your opinion. Again, I'm talking about people who post things routinely that are "flatly wrong," as if it were well-established fact.

I hear you John. I guess I've never understood what's wrong with just not knowing. Some people just can't not know. You know?
