I have 170 miles on my BMS Heritage 150cc w/GY6 clone engine. On the second tank of gas (which is half empty now), the engine started stalling when cruising. It just dies out. At first, it would catch again and I could gain speed again and it would work fine, but now it slows me down to a full stop and it takes awhile to start again. It's always been a hard starter since day 1, the first thing in the morning. I always have to stay with it until it warms up, but then it will stay running. I upped the idle rpm's a bit and that seemed to help some. I was looking at it this morning and after it warmed up and I hit the throttle hard it wasn't as responsive at it should be. It stalled a little before reving up. Even giving it about half throttle it seemed to take a few seconds to get to the rpm's it should have gotten to right away. It isn't always in it's "mood" but when it is the idle rpm's are low and the engine will eventually die. It'll start right back up, most of the time anyway, but I again have to play with the throttle to keep it running until it get's out of it's mood. Once in it's mood, however, it usually stays in it's mood and doesn't run like it should. Anyone know about these engines and their inherant problems? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Bill Well, for some reason it won't let me reply to my own thread but it will let me edit it so I'll post my findings this way... I adjusted the valves tonight. The intake was at about .035 and the exhaust was way tight. I set them carefully to .004 as suggested by alleyoop. I hit the start button and it fired right up like it never has before. Oh yeah! It idled fine, then slowed a little, then sped up again. It sounded like, if I understand the system correctly, that the enricher was doing it's thing but it wasn't idling at a constant speed. Nonetheless, while it was warming up I threw on my gear and headed out for a test ride. Same deal as before. It just died about three miles from home and this time wouldn't start up again for nothin'! I sat on the side of the road for about two hours trying to decide what to do. After many, many failed atempts at restarting it I shook the bike back and forth, I suppose out of desperation, and I got it to fire, and eventually start. I took off for home but didn't go over 40 mph. I think I'll pull the carb in the morning and see what I see. Maybe the float is sticking or something. Thanks for the help so far...

howdy and welcome to the forum, if you were looking for someone with a little knowledge, I have as little as anyone!
personally, with this type of thing from new, I would start with the simple things like making sure the plug wire is on properly. then check the fuse holder and connections to it. then , the connections to and from the cdi---etc. did you buy it from a dealer that did a post delivery inspection?. it sounds much like a fuel delivery problem , but could be electrical or perhaps valve adjustment though I would hope not. anyway--
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

You said you raised your idle, but did you adjust your a/f mixture first? Having to play with the throttle like that is usually an indication of improper air/fuel mixture, which can be adjusted easily, but in some cases requires re-jetting (not hard either). In the tech section, look for alleyoop's carb tuning instructions, and follow them to the letter.

I'd start with plug wire. Make sure the boot is on properly and that it is maKing a good plug connection. Next would be fuel check the line to see if it comes near the motor anywhere or has a low point where it might get a bubble. After that check the fuel peacock vacume line if it has one (don't remember) then the carb F.I. neck for air leaks then the stator coil wires and stator

The first thing to do is Check the Valves they may have been adjusted to tight and are not sealing which will cause those problems. The motor creates suction and every time is does it sucks in fuel and air, with tight valves not to much suction is created and will cause those problems. Then once you adjust the valves if it still acting up a bit then you can adjust the carb for the correct fuel to air mixture. and here is how to do that: Alleyoop Here is how to adjust your carb: itistheride.boards.net/thread/12/4ts-carb-tuningAnd here is how to adjust your valves: SET THEM BOTH TO .004 inchs
