If you ever wondered what road rash feels like,
you can create a similar environment, on a small scale, without the disastrous effects.
Just buy a small piece of large grain sand paper; make a fist, and rub the sand paper hard over the back of your hand.
If you want to make it more realistic, rub it a bit faster.
If the experience is successful, you should see small scrapes where blood comes out. If it's just red, or skin peeling off, you haven't performed the experiment successfully.
If you did perform it successfully, then 'Congratulations'!
You now know how it feels like to ride and fall without protection at ~20-25MPH.

I've had rug burns. I've always figured road rash is like that, times about 2000.
Like Hank, I'll just take your word about the sandpaper.

Well, I only suggested to try it out for those of us who have SM tendencies; the tough guys, and those of us with great curiosity in life.
Never tried it myself though, but sandpaper rubs about as fast as 20MPH I think...

I had a a friend who ran into a wall full speed. It was grade school, he was running to the end of the gym, looked behind him to see who was close, looked forward and the wall was about two inches away. Knocked himself goofy for some minutes.

I rubbed sandpaper on the back of my armored glove but something must have gone wrong...I didn't feel a thing.

Even a crash as slow as 20-25mph can take skin to the bone in certain circumstances. If you want to use sandpaper, you'd have to take a belt sander at 25mph (single direction is the key here) and hold it to your skin for the duration of an 'at speed' slide with an equivalent weight to your own pressing against it to get an idea of what it's like to crash without protection.
It isn't pretty.

The term "roadrash" is waaaaay too mild for the actual severity of the injuries sustained. It minimizes one's imagination who has never actually seen or experienced it. Kinda like "rope-burn" a rope burn can sever a hand!Road rash can grind one off!
