jerky ride

I have a 2012 tao tao 50cc that I put a 80cc bbk on. Everything was fine until my belt broke. I have replaced with a powerlink belt but still need to clean out the left over belt dust. Well it just shut off in traffic yesterday and wouldn't crank over at all and when I tried to kick start the lever wouldn't budge at all. got it to final move after a few minutes and got it to start. got it home and let it sit until morning then I checked oil. was barely on the stick so I filled it and took for a spin. started and idled fine, accelerated fine but after it gets to a certain speed it starts to jerk like a transmission slip in a car. anyone have any idea what is the cause and how to fix?

If your kick start lever won't budge I am gonna take a guess that it is somehow not in place and is rubbing against the belt when the belt rises on the variator.
The fix is to take the CVT cover off and see if there are any rub marks on the inner kickstart parts. You may fint that the hole in the CVT cover that the final drive kicktart gear goes into has cracked. Thats what happened to mine after installing a BBK. The higher compression does a number on kickstarters.

If the engine died and the kick starter was frozen, but after a few minutes it moved and worked, it sounds like your BBK might have had a soft seize. Your belt issue may not be related, or maybe it's something else entirely different...

sounds like you seized the motor with lack of lube excess heat built up cause the motor to seize and after setting it cooled off and and unseized what size jet are you using

the carb and jets are all stock straight from the factory. they where the original that was on the scooter when I bought it, but I took off and used one from me spare parts scooter that I had just cleaned until it messed up and had to put original carb back on 2 weeks ago.

I was thinking that I had locked the piston up and that might be why when driving it gets jerky. so would that mean if I got another bbk that it would stop?

If you are using a 50cc stock carb with the stock jetting on an 80cc BBK, you are running way too lean!

ok but that doesn't explain why all of a sudden it started to get jerky because ive been riding it this was since December. also this mornning I noticed that I have a lot of oil leaking from the main air filter box. its not pouring out but when I shut off and let it cool down theres a small puddle behind the scooter.

I think you have the same problem as mine, just clean the air filter and jerking problem will disappear and take out the hose and put it upward somewhere in scoot so the oil won't leak any more

If your running with a stock carb and you did not up-jet the main jet your are running very LEAN and that is why the motor is going up and down on the RPMS feels like a HOT JERKY. If you do not up jet your motor will sieze up. No excuses, that it ran good before. If you do not heed the suggestions you will be changing out the motor or redoing the whole thing all over again. You need at least a # or # Main jet. Alleyoop

ok but what would cause the oil to leak into the air filter box enough that it leaks out the back and makes a small puddle when shut off and cools

The extra oil being pushed could be caused by excessive blow by or a burnt piston (at the worst). If you were running that bbk with a stock main jet, then you were running the risk of burning a valve or piston from the heat. Is it a coincidence that your problem is happening when the weather got warmer? Maybe not, because the engine might not be as cool as the winter. Also check your oil level if oil has been blowing out a lot. Less oil means less cooling as well.
As far as oil ending up on the ground. It might have always been leaking out as you ride....you just see a puddle when stopped.
If I were you, I would take that bbk apart and see the condition of the piston, valves, and rings. If you are lucky, there is no damage, or there is only damage to the rings and the cylinder wall is still in good shape.

well the valve springs and the gap are good. I plan on taking the valves completely off and seeing how they look. Friday im taking it to where I bought it and they are going to do a dionag on it for $30. im thinking that I burnt the rings and after I buy another base gasket I will find out cus I most likely with rip mine when I take the chug out

my 0.0000001ct would be perhaps a piece of rubber belt got inbetween the starter gears.
